7 Tips to Help You Eat Out Without Falling Off Track (Just Like Our Client Lauren Did!)

Many of you are heading off on holidays or juggling event after event—and we get it. The meals out, the drinks, the desserts... it can feel like a fast track to losing progress. But it doesn’t have to be.

At DVP Fitness, we work with real women living real lives. One of our clients, Lauren, a busy mum of two, managed to lose over 8kg while still attending every birthday party, brunch, and family dinner.

How? She learned how to make smart, balanced choices without feeling restricted.

Here are 7 tips we shared with Lauren that helped her confidently eat out, enjoy herself, and still get incredible results:

🍽️ 1. Manage your portions

Follow your hunger cues. Meals out are often oversized. Instead of “cleaning the plate,” check in with how your body feels—most of us can leave 5–8 spoonful’s behind and still feel satisfied.

🍰 2. Share dessert

You don’t have to skip dessert—just share the love. Order one treat and split it with the table. You get the sweet hit without overdoing it.

🍟 3. Avoid super-sizing

Big combos might look like value for money, but they usually come with extra fat, sugar, and sodium that your body doesn’t need. Stick with regular portions.

🥗 4. Make simple swaps

Swap chips or fries for a side of vegetables or salad. You'll still feel full—without the heavy, greasy after-meal slump.

🥄 5. Get sauces on the side

Sauces and dressings can sneak in hundreds of calories. Ask for them on the side and dip lightly to add flavour without the excess.

💧 6. Skip sugary drinks

Stick to water or sparkling water with lemon or lime. If you’re drinking alcohol, 1–2 drinks is a sweet spot for balance.

📲 7. Plan ahead

Check the menu online before you go. Choose a meal that’s high in protein, fibre, and quality carbs, and lower in heavy fats or sugar. Deciding in advance helps you feel calm and confident when ordering.
